Sinkhole or Collapse? On Monday, April 27th 2020 a sinkhole appeared in the Hideaway Hills development in Blackhawk, SD. Working with emergency management officials, cavers initially entered the sinkhole to access the void at the bottom. Expecting to find a a gypsum cave, they soon realized that the sinkhole was a collapse into a 1920's abandoned gypsum mine. Over the course of one evening, six cavers mapped the extent of the mine creating imagery, overlay, and map data for county officials to use.
